Curriculum Intent for PE
At Beckley CE Primary School we are passionate about PE, school sport and daily physical activity, long recognising the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. We also acknowledge that a broad, balanced, high-quality curriculum and a range of extra-curricular activities have a positive impact on concentration, attitude and achievement. We are committed in ensuring that all pupils receive a minimum of 2 hours of PE per week, delivered by our specialist sports coach.
At Beckley, we aim to provide a PE curriculum that pupils from Reception to Year 6 not only enjoy but also allows them to experience a range of activities that help them to grow as successful learners by developing their health, fitness and wellbeing. We intend to offer a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident individuals in a way that supports their health and fitness.
We believe that participation in sporting activity is a key element of developing a school in which pupils are caring citizens, proud of the community in which they belong. Therefore, great emphasis is placed upon additional sporting opportunities beyond the lesson within after-school clubs and inter-school competition and festivals as well as directly trying to support the local clubs within the local area.
The national curriculum for PE aims to ensure that all pupils:
-
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
