For over 100 years, pupils at our school have been taking part in the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Beckley Village War Memorial, outside Beckley Church. As generations of pupils have before them, our children attended the service with the local residents, read some poems they had written, said prayers and laid a wreath as they remembered the sacrifice so many had made in order for us to live with the freedoms we do.
Children have also created a wonderful art display in school, based upon the Remembrance Day poppy, and have learnt about the story of how the poppy became the symbol of remembrance. We count it as an honour and privilege to be involved with an event like this in our local community that is so important and has so much history linked with the school.
We won’t ever forget…
