Recently, the school was filled with amazing characters from the pages of a wide range of books, as we held our Beckley World Book Day. With ‘Gangster Grannies’ to ‘Gandalf’; ‘Miss Trunchpole’ to ‘The Cat in the Hat’, ‘Mr Willy Wonka’ to ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ – the school was full of colours, costumes and characters. As well as dressing up, pupils also enjoyed buddying up with another class and sharing their books with one another. In the afternoon, the children chose to go and listen to a story from a ‘mystery reader’, knowing only the title of the book when they made their choices. It was a great day and reminded everyone about the joys and benefits of reading. A big thanks to all those parents who we up late on Sunday night, gluing, sewing and painting costumes and props – they were amazing!
