Beckley recently had a large inspection from the Church of England to see how well people flourish at our school. As a Church of England school, Beckley has a SIAMS inspection every five years. This is a little like an OFSTED inspection, although the focus is slightly different. The SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) process focuses on the following:

  • What is the school’s Christian vision and how does this impact on the day-to-day life of the school?
  • How are pupils and adults given opportunities to flourish?
  • What opportunities are there beyond the classroom for pupils and adults to build their confidence?
  • How does the school vision create a culture where pupils and adults are treated well?
  • How does the school vision create a culture of justice and responsibility?
  • How does collective worship in the school support people to flourish spiritually?
  • How effective is RE taught?

We have always placed a really high importance on developing a positive, caring, encouraging culture at Beckley that does enable all of our school family develop as successful learners, grow to be confident individuals and become caring citizens. Our recent SIAMS inspection report has been a great ‘thumbs-up’ for the school and we are extremely proud of the wonderful report from the SIAMS team that reflects this.

Here are a few quotes from the SIAMS report:

‘…the Christian vision is deeply rooted in the life of the school. The impact of this is that pupils and adults are encouraged to ‘let their light shine’ and are flourishing.’

‘The headteacher and staff team are passionate in embedding the key messages from the vision so that pupils thrive in school.’

‘The curriculum enables different groups of learners to flourish. The breadth of curriculum excites pupils, and they enjoy their lessons. The school provides regular opportunities for pupils to extend their learning beyond the classroom, deepening their learning experiences.’

‘Being caring citizens is very evident in the life of the school. Pupils demonstrate a deep understanding of what it means to show love towards themselves and others. There are several pupil leadership roles in school. These include shining light leaders, school council representatives and sports leaders. There is an impressive buddy programme between Year 6 and Year R pupils whereby pupils build strong friendships between each other.’

We know that there is something very special about Beckley as a school and we are delighted that our SIAMS inspection shows that other people can recognise this too!
