This term, Red Maple are learning about China and they recently had a visit from some Chinese students studying at Buckswood School, who performed a traditional ‘Lion Dance’ to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year! The spectacular Lion puppets created a feast of bright colour and movement as they danced to the sound of a huge traditional Chinese drum. Red Maple children learnt about the history of the Lion puppets and how they are used in many traditional celebrations and festivals.

Afterwards, pupils enjoyed the opportunity to look closely at the costumes and spectacular head dresses that were worn by the performers. They even got to put the Lion head dress on and play the traditional Chinese drum!
