Christmas has arrived at Beckley School!
This week, the children and staff had a wonderful time watching the pantomime ‘Aladdin’, performed by ‘the travelling theatre company ‘big Bubble, who came to the school. The children have been making decorations for the community Christmas Tree outside the Beckley Village Hall and are singing at the Village Christmas Extravaganza at the weekend. The BSA Christmas Fair is taking place at the village hall, where the children will go to buy presents for their families and enjoy all the amazing treats and games the BSA have planned. Next week, we have our Christmas lunch, with all the trimmings, Christmas crackers and Christmas jumpers. There are also rumours that the school might have a very special visitor coming to meet all the children sometime next week too!
However, alongside all of these wonderful events, the children have also been taking time to think about WHAT are celebrating and the reason WHY we celebrate. Pupils have been reflecting on the birth of Jesus, celebrated at this time of year. This week marked the start of ADVENT and the children have been learning how we use advent to help us look forward to, or countdown toward Christmas Day – the day that we celebrate the birth of Jesus – the day that changed the entire world, forever!
Pupils were reminded that the Advent candles commemorate each Sunday throughout December as we look forward to Christmas Day. Each candle reminds us of a particular gift that Jesus brings to us – Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Finally, the white candle that represents Jesus himself – the light of the world.
